Have you ever thought about the decisions you spend time taking every day? Maybe you stress about what you are going to wear, or what your kids should wear (yey for uniforms!) or maybe it is about what’s for dinner. Wouldn’t it be great if we as parents could save some time when it comes to cooking for our family?
For those of us with hectic lifestyles (let’s face it, with kids, a hectic lifestyle is automatically guaranteed) planning what to cook and actually cooking it can cause additional stress that can actually be reduced.
There are various ways to reduce time when it comes to the preparation of meals however some of them such as ready-made meals and take-away options may not tick all the boxes when it comes to offering our kids a nutritious and healthy meal.
Enter the Crock-Pot.
We have recently had a giveaway where one of our lucky readers got her hands on one and we asked some Crock-Pot users on what actually makes it such a popular household appliance with parents.
We have shortlisted 6 reasons we feel it has garnered so much popularity:
1) Mouth-watering flavours
When we spoke to parents who use the crock-pot, they all mentioned the flavour. Basically, thanks to the extended cooking time, meals are more flavourful (The crock-pot will cook your food whilst you are at work, gym or wherever else your hectic day takes you and retains all the natural juices and nutrients of the ingredients). Moreover, when it comes to meats, the cooking time gives an incredibly tender result which is great especially when trying to introduce meat to picky eaters.
2) No risk of burning
For those people who are out all day and used to struggle to cook a wholesome meal when they get home from work, the Crock-Pot has proven to be a lifesaver. It takes care of the cooking whilst you are out and as soon the cooking time is over, it switches to ‘keep warm’ mode, meaning that there is no risk of food getting burnt. Plus, there is the bonus of not having to re-heat the meal when you are ready to serve it.
3) Less Clutter
Using a Crock-Pot means that all the cooking is happening in one pot. This frees up the oven and hob, allowing for other types of cooking or baking which can be especially useful when cooking for a crowd and when every bit of extra cooking space helps. It also means that there is far less washing up to do and THAT is always a welcome plus in our books!
4) Energy efficient
Using the oven for extended periods of time can lead to high electricity costs. The slow cooker uses comparatively little power and wastes none of it, thus making it very energy efficient.
5) Varied menu
We were previously under the wrong impression that cooking in a Crock-Pot is only suitable for stews, however we learnt that you can prepare a vast array of meals using the crock-pot, ranging from pasta dishes and soups to chicken, fish or meat dishes, casseroles, roasts and much more. Check out some varied recipes here.
6) Saving time
Unlike with regular cooking where you need to remain close by while your pots bubble away on the hob, when using a Crock-Pot, you can truly multitask while your food cooks in total safety. One of the highlights of the Crock-Pot is that it doesn’t require watching or stirring the food. In fact, it is not recommended that you lift the lid once a Crock-Pot has started cooking since it allows the heat to escape thus slowing down cooking time.
