The Malta Midwives Association recently added another a service to their list – that of a walk-in support group for parents who have infants under one. Parents are invited to visit this group, meet other parents and put their mind at rest about rearing their little ones.
The aim of the Postnatal Support Group, offered by the Malta Midwives Association, is to give a holistic approach to childbearing and childrearing. It is intended to provide an opportunity for mothers or parents to meet with other parents, to talk and discuss the many issues and concerns a newborn baby brings into a relationship. Many new parents may feel isolated, worried if what they are doing is the right thing and welcome reassurance from health professionals on how to best care for their newborn babies.
The service is run by midwives and offers practical advice and suggestions. It allows open communication between mothers themselves and midwives. The Postnatal Support service is on a walk-in basis, meaning mothers or parents do not need to book to attend. The setup is informal in a relax environment, to facilitate open communication.
