This is the first time I have experienced a full Maltese Fashion Week. I have to be honest and say, that my experience of fashion in Malta was not love at first sight. Having a Scandinavian upbringing, I am used to a more sleek style, whilst the style here in Malta is more colourful, theatrical and complex, so at the beginning it was all a little overwhelming.
Having said this, during the last couple of years I have followed designers such as Charles and Ron and Caroline Hili who meticulously manage to combine the more complex Maltese style with a sleek approach which truly resonates with my personal style.
So after 8 years of living in Malta, here I am covering Malta Fashion Week for Tresemme and for buzymummy.com. I have shortlisted 7 highlights that stuck in my mind as memorable moments of Malta Fashion Week 2017.
1. Rosemarie Abela‘s ‘La Cupola’
On day 1 the show started with a BANG with Rosemaria Abela‘s collection La Cupola, and right away I was excited.
The styling was on point. The clothes showed excellent craftsmanship, and I loved that the designer dared to venture into a more theatrical design which worked great with the staging and lights on the runway. It was beautiful. The show closed with a stunning white dress featuring a hand-painted Mosta Dome.
I was also really excited about the fact that each of us bloggers received an exclusive Italian-knitted head scarf by the designer which I incorporated in one of my outfits later in the week.

2. The bloggers’ show of support for the designers
I loved how most of the bloggers I met, celebrated their favourite designers which were showing on a particular day, by wearing their designs. This kind of support and love, is one of the reasons I love living in Malta.

3. Desiree’s hand-painted designs
Desiree who hand-paints bags and shoes had caught my eye before I even came to Fashion Week. She seemed like such a kind-hearted and beautiful person and she has tremendous support and following on social media.
Her positive energy is reflected in her work with an amazing sense of detail that shows her deep love to Malta. She is definitely a designer I hope to see much more from.

4. A night of Divas
Wednesday was intense – and the theme was DIVAS.
I admit, I hadn’t known about the designer Gaetano before this evening. And it was one amazing show: dresses, gowns and outfits direct from a Hollywood movie. It was spectacular.
Considering the show followed Ivory and Co., whose stunning gowns made me want to get married again, I was impressed that Gaetano managed to hold his own with one stunning creation after the other ending with a wonderful performance by Claudia Faniello.
I was so genuinely impressed that following the show, I spent most of the day trying to get in contact with the designer for a viewing.

5. Rosita Silk and Virag Andersson
Rosita had a very aesthetically beautiful presentation, with handmade flowing silk dresses, tunics and blouses, directly out of a fairy-tale. Colourful oversized jewellery by Virag Andersson provided a tantalizing edge and contrast to the delicate silk pieces.
The collection was absolutely exquisite. A big well done.

6. Gagliardi
Gagliardi was very enjoyable to watch. I am normally not the biggest fan of traditional retail fashion shows. But the styling was very good, adventurous and exciting. Music was on point, and it was nice to see some male models on the runway for a change.
My husband is already a big fan of the brand, and this show made me a fan too.

7. Yana’s Jewellery
Last but not least I really liked Yana´s jewellery‘s collection. The presentation in itself was mystical and endearing with each piece displayed within a frame on the various branches of a tree-like structure and I really liked the pieces themselves.
Yana is a self taught jewellery designer, with an impeccable eye for colour and detail. I´m looking forward to wear one of her designs myself.
