I am sipping my coffee in a villa in France. The noise upstairs is of my girlfriends getting ready to go out. Today we are off to a wine-tasting tour.
It is just us adults, there is no toddler waking me up early, insisting that it is the perfect time to play with cars. I must admit it feels like bliss.
As a mum and career woman, I rarely have days like this. I adore my son and love my job, but a getaway with my girlfriends is giving me the break I didn’t realise I needed.
Most of us here are mothers, and it feels great to talk freely about how we feel; the challenges as well as the amazing joys of parenthood.
So I say YES, it is okay to pack your bags and get some time for yourself without feeling the guilt we tend to constantly put on ourselves.

Sometimes I feel that as parents we are expected to give up everything else and forget who we truly are.
But I disagree. I think as parents we should be there for our children, but we should also get the time to recharge and unwind.
For me nothing beats time with my girlfriends. Of course it does not have to be a trip abroad. A mid-week coffee, or a spa day can work too.
What I am saying is that some time away from it all, is giving me the energy I need to go back and spend quality time with my son as well as, face the world of work. As a career woman I am the first to admit, balancing it all is no mean feat and in those overwhelming moments of exhaustion, some time with your girlfriends is all you need to put things back in perspective.
So all you amazing mums out there, take some time for yourself, I can assure you, you will come out feeling energized and fresh.
Off I go to sip some wine with my girlfriends, I will surely raise a glass to all of you fellow mums out there.
A bientot!
