The answer is very easy – because there is literally no time for ourselves anymore. True, however is that really the reason? Or is it because our priorities totally change when we have children?
In reality, maybe, leaving the kids for an hour to pamper ourselves is not that impossible. The problem in essence is that there is always something more important to do, someone more important than ourselves to take care of, so something as ‘frivolous’ as a facial takes the back seat. The result? Tired, very tired dehydrated skin and I am a prime example of it.
..since having kids that routine has been thrown out of the window and replaced with wiping 3-day old makeup with a baby wipe..
I admit, before I had kids I did not have a very sophisticated beauty regime, however at least I used to cleanse, tone and moisturise every single morning and evening, and yes I used to treat myself to a facial once in a while.
Since having kids that routine has been thrown out of the window and replaced with wiping 3-day old makeup with a baby wipe, and I am not exaggerating. So you can imagine, 4 years after having kids, my skin is extremely thirsty for some serious tender-loving-care.
I have been toying with the idea of booking a facial for a couple of months now, and finally decided to go for it, after reading up about the new ‘IonActive treatments by Dermalogica’ available at Alfie’s Hair and Beauty Salon. I reasoned that after so many sleepless nights, my skin deserved some attention if at least for 45 minutes every couple of months, and I thought what better time to start than Christmas time?
The stunning Francesca Scerri Rizzo – a.k.a my skin saviour
Francesca Scerri Rizzo, who is a highly qualified Dermalogica skin therapist, explains to me how important it is to take care of our skin, not only for aesthetic reasons, “Our skin is our largest organ” she explains, “It is responsible for regulating our body temperature, acts as a protective cover for our body and helps us detox.” She made me realise what is probably obvious to everyone else, which is the fact that our facial skin is the most vulnerable since is always exposed to the elements.
“In reality taking care of our skin is the most important step; beautiful skin is the best base for makeup” – Francesca Scerri Rizzo
I arrive at my appointment and feel a wave of joy at the fact that I am finally taking some time for myself. Francesca tells me that the treatment she will be applying is specifically for dehydrated skin however there are different treatments available which are very effective in treating acne, premature skin aging, and pigmentation. I take a before photo which is quite embarrassing as I look sooo tired but I am including it further down, after all, BuzyMummy.com IS all about keeping it real and when you have young kids, the reality is you are going to look this tired once in a while.
During the treatment, Francesca explains to me how exfoliation is one of the most important steps in the process, as it ensures that the products (which feel incredible by the way) are absorbed thoroughly in the skin. “In reality taking care of our skin is the most important step; beautiful skin is the best base for makeup”, she adds. Francesca also recommends drinking more water and upping our fruit & veg intake as they are full of antioxidants.
The session passes really quickly and my skin feels revived and refreshed. Here you can see my before and after pics side by side, I look like I am about to fall asleep in the after photo (I was that relaxed); not the greatest photo of me but the results are quite evident. The photos were taken in the same room with the same phone, same lighting a few minutes before the facial and straight after.
My ‘before’ and ‘after’ shots – not the best pics of me – but the results are evident
I have to add that here at BuzyMummy we only recommend products or services that are tried and tested and which we genuinely believe are high quality. We can safely say that the ‘IonActiv treatment by Dermalogica’ available at Alfie’s Hair and Beauty Salon has passed our test with flying colours and we recommend it as an ideal gift for yourselves or your loved ones this Christmas season.
Oh and if, like me you have the habit of cleansing your face with baby wipes, I discovered ‘Dermalogica precleanse wipes’ which are formulated without artificial fragrances, colours or parabens, making them incredibly kind to our skin, and are also available at Alfie’s Hair and Beauty Salon.
The treatment is in high demand, so we suggest you call the salon to make an appointment asap if you are interested – 21334362.
We wish you health, happiness (and some pampering) this Christmas Season.
